  • Cowan Community Center 81 Sturgill Branch Whitesburg, KY, 41858 United States (map)

Come join us for a free afternoon-evening to celebrate all that is great about Letcher County including music, dance, art… and of course, food!

The Letcher County Culture Hub is a growing network of community-led organizations in Letcher County, who work together to build a culture and economy where we own what we make.

Over 20 Culture Hub partners have worked together to start businesses, revive cultural events, influence public policy and bring more and more citizens of Letcher County into the process of imagining and building our future together. This is a celebration of that work.

Musical performers (From 1pm until 5pm) include Lee Sexton, BAK2BAK, Ron Short, Nate Polly, Debbie Tuggle Pendley, and Mitchella Phipps. A gospel singing will take place at Big Cowan Old Regular Baptist Church at 5pm. A free community dinner (Contributions accepted) will begin at 6pm featuring ribs, chicken and steak prepared by grilling maestro Bill Meade, Kings Creek Fire Department. Additional food will be prepared by Cowan Community Center and Hemp Hill Community Center’s Black Sheep Bakery and Catering.

A reading of the Roadside Theater play, “The Future of Letcher County” that is based on interviews from folks across the county will begin at 2pm followed by a community discussion.

A Carcassonne sponsored square dance will begin at 8:30pm in the community center featuring the band, Sunrise Ridge.

Booths from many culture hub partners including the City of Whitesburg, Letcher County Farmers Market, Appalshop, Revive Our Lower Letcher (ROLL), Carcassonne Community Center, Humans of Central Appalachia, and Hemp Hill’s Black Sheep Bakery and Catering to name a few.
